Meet the team – Business Development Manager, Lucy Milner
Meet our newest member of the team – Lucy Milner
There are three core components to our industry-leading business – our excellent products, our professional service, and last, but by no means least, our experienced staff.
Our team is made up of some of the most skilled professionals within the commercial water treatment industry. Some of them have been in the field for decades while some of our equally-important employees, have just joined us, like our new Business Development Manager, Lucy Milner.
In this post, we spend a few minutes talking to Lucy about what her role at Excel Water involves:
Q. How long have you been with Excel Water for?
A. I’ve been with the team for a month now, as I joined in October.
Q. What does your role involve?
A. It mainly consists of looking after our new and existing customers, talking to them about their water treatment needs and arranging site surveys to diagnose the problem. I also spend time looking for opportunities to further enhance our business relationships and seeking new opportunities to build our business.
Q. What do you like the most about it?
A. Well, it is rather early days to say for sure and I’m still learning all there is to know about Excel Water, but right now, I really enjoy speaking to and getting to know all of our customers, old and new.
Q. What was it about Excel Water that made you want to work for them?
A. From the very first meeting with Managing Director, Emma Armitage, it was clear to see her passion for the company and knowledge about water treatment. I knew this was where I wanted to work.
I researched the company’s history, finding out how it all began with Brian Field. He saw a gap in the market for the manufacture of demin plants. And after years of working at Vickers, A E Turbines and Permutit, Brian founded Excel Water. Since then, the company has grown into leading specialists, which is great to be a part of.
The team are friendly and fantastic at sharing their vast knowledge of water treatment. This has made my training and learning so much easier and I’m able to ask questions from true experts in their field.
Q. What are your initial observations about how they work?
A. The whole team have an infectious passion for customer service and water treatment. They keep up to date in new technologies and constantly strive to deliver the best possible solution for their customers. They listen intently to customer needs and on draw their years of water treatment experience to design systems unique to the task at hand.
Q. What are you most looking forward to learning about over the coming weeks and months?
A. I’m learning all about water treatment and its crucial purpose both in industry and for domestic use. I have also learnt about water softeners and how reverse osmosis works. I will be moving on to demin plant and UV systems this week!
At the same time, I am also researching our customers and why they require our products. It’s been a big challenge, but I’m enjoying finding out more about our business, customers and services.
Q. What do you like doing when you’re not working?
A. Spending time with my nieces, friends and family and watching my favourite sports, cricket and Castleford Tigers rugby league. I also love to read and travel too.
