Water treatment equipment service and maintenance: What are the options?

In order to work efficiently and effectively, it’s essential commercial water treatment equipment is regularly serviced and maintained.

This work should ideally be carried out by engineers, who follow water treatment equipment service and maintenance best practice, and are trained to work with all of the different types of water treatment values, such as Fleck, Autotrol, Clack and Siata.

Generally speaking, most leading water treatment equipment service and maintenance providers will offer different levels of support, depending on how much your operations depend on your commercial water supply.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common service and maintenance options:

Option #1: Water treatment breakdown cover

Breakdowns can be expensive and any level of downtime can cause unwanted disruption. Just as you would take out breakdown cover for your car or boiler, it’s possible for you take out cover for your commercial water treatment system.

As with all types of breakdown policies, the level of cover varies according to the provider’s resources and capabilities. For instance, we aim to respond to all breakdowns within 48 hours*, but not all water treatment specialists are able to offer such a responsive service.

Option #2: Specialist pipework and tank clean

Regular ‘deep cleans’ and chlorination (the process of adding chlorine or equivalent compounds to clean water supplies) is essential for maintaining water hygiene levels.

Your commercial water treatment partner should be able to advise you on how often your pipes and tank need to be cleaned, depending on your operations and the make-up of your commercial water supply. Their work should comply with current water legislations and ACOP l8 regulations and they should provide you with a certificate to evidence that their work has been carried out to the correct standard.

Option #3: Commercial boiler maintenance and treatment

This involves carrying out a detailed assessment of the treatment work that’s required for your commercial boiler and advising on the appropriate action, which can range from dosing and blowdowns, to pre-treating your water in accordance with BS2486:1997.

Boilers can break down for all sorts of reasons, including lack of maintenance, scale and deposit build up (that can lead to heating elements failing) and a build-up of sludge. Tailored boiler maintenance and treatment work can help prevent costly issues from occurring and potentially extend the lifespan of your boiler.

Most businesses that rely on a commercial water supply to produce products will most probably require all of these forms of maintenance and treatment at some point. Regular treatment and servicing may be seen as an unwanted expensive, but it’s far more cost effective than the price of having to deal with sub-standard quality or water treatment equipment breakdowns.
